“Make sure the company you join has the same values as you do.” –Lynda Resnick, author Rubies in the Orchard
Did you know that nothing is wasted in God’s kingdom? NOTHING.
I reached a point where it became vividly clear that the company I was working for did not share my values. I had no idea what to do next. I needed a job that would allow me to have flexibility in my schedule for my family and worship ministry at church. A job like that doesn’t come along very often so I had come to terms that I would have to give something up—either pay or flexibility. It made me sick to my stomach to think that 10 years of experience in my career seemed wasted.
I cried out to God and prayed for guidance. I asked God to give me a dream because that is the ONLY time my brain is turned off and I’m not trying to make something happen in my own strength! God is faithful. He gave me a dream. I remember telling my husband the next morning, “Um, I think God told me to send my resume to ScriptureArt.” He kind of gave me a funny look but we had both been praying, so he agreed I should probably send it.
I had only heard of ScriptureArt maybe 6 months prior and it wasn’t even on my radar—a good indication that I truly HAD heard from God! I knew that what I was about to do sounded crazy, but I figured I didn’t know the people at ScriptureArt anyway, so what the heck! I found info@scriptureart.com on their website and sent an email that sounded something like this:
This may sound crazy, but I had a dream and I felt like the Lord wanted me to send you my resume. I run sales, marketing, and operations at a small company that has products in a variety of large retailers such as Wal-Mart, Costco, CVS, etc. I also lead worship at my church and here’s a list of people you can call so you’ll know I’m not crazy.
(Well, maybe the last part didn’t sound EXACTLY like that, but you get the picture.)
Around this same time, a woman named Kelly had also been crying out to God because she needed help with the logistics of running a business. ScriptureArt was growing which was great, but it also brought a lot of challenges. Kelly had a background in real estate which was extremely different from running a company like ScriptureArt but she knew God had told her to start it. She was trusting Him to provide…I was trusting Him to provide.
I was stunned when she emailed me back. Stunned and delighted. Stunned because this was just plain NUTS. And delighted because I knew that I wasn’t crazy—I HAD heard from God.
After 10 minutes on a phone call talking about ‘businessy things’ Kelly said, “Ok, just stop talking. What you’re saying doesn’t even matter because I KNOW that I’m supposed to be working with you. I have had a peace about you and about this phone call and I am 100% sure that you are meant to be part of ScriptureArt.”
It was everything I could do to not start crying. Was it really true? Could I really do what I loved and had 10 years experience doing? And this time for a company that exists solely to encourage people, spread God’s Word, and bring glory to the King of kings?
Friends…it’s true. There’s a saying that if something seems too good to be true, it probably is. Can I tell you that God is NOT like that? He is NOT too good to be true. He is for you. He has GOOD plans for you. He desires for you to be near to Him. He PROMISES to work ALL things for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose. He is trustworthy and He keeps His promises.
Nothing is wasted. This was His plan all along–to bring 2 of His precious daughters together that needed each other at the perfect time.
Our corporate office is in North Carolina, but I live in TX. Other members of our team live in other parts of the country. ScriptureArt is a company that allows each of us to use our strengths in business and also allows us flexibility for our families and ministries. I am THRILLED that God led me here…I encourage you to boldly ask God for guidance. Then listen. Then do what He says. He has things planned for you greater than you could ever ask or imagine!!
Jeremiah 29:11 says, “For I know the plans I have for you. Plans to prosper you and not to harm you. Plans to give you hope and a future.”
What has God been calling you to do that you’ve been ignoring? Are you too scared, tired, busy? What is it that is holding you back? You only get ONE CHANCE at this life. Live it fully.
Blessings,
Crystal
